This month the discussion mainly focused on two projects; digital mapping and film industry:
- Digital Mapping
We discussed what to include/exclude and how to sub-divide the data. With the technical expertise of John Busch (computer science) and Lorraine Barry (GIS expert, geographer), we are starting the digital mapping of Belfast as a prototype for the project. Dr Gul Kacmaz Erk has started to collect data about Cinema locations that will be mapped in the prototype. Sam Manning (PhD, History) has started to look into Belfast (historical) cinemas. If you are interested in any aspect of data collection, please let Dr Gul Kacmaz Erk know. We have also sent an abstract to CAVA (www.cava-research.org) in the University of Liverpool.
- Film Industry
We talked about different aspects of the project such as infrastructure, land use, studios, supporting industries/buildings, (trained) man power, money distribution, maintenance, and sustainability. There is a well-made episode of The Arts Show (BBC) on the fast-growing film industry in Belfast since 2007.
