Cinema and Architecture in the City
WORKSHOP
As part of CACity, Dr Gul Kacmaz Erk, who is an architect and a lecturer, runs urban film workshops that are open to all in collaboration with film directors and artists in different cities. These workshops mostly attract the attention of students and professionals in architecture, film studies and visual arts. Belfast 2015
In collaboration with film director Paddy Cahill, and as part of CACity Research Group (with Place NI, Institute for Collaborative Research in the Humanities of QUB and Queen's Film Theatre).
In this open-to-all workshop, participants were asked to make a short urban film based on the theme of the workshop Vacant/Occupied, in and about Belfast.
Belfast 2013
As part of Street Society 2014 (with Queen’s University Belfast).
In this workshop for QUB Architecture (first and fifth year) students, participants were asked to make a short urban film in and about Belfast.
Dublin 2011
In collaboration with visual artist Sinead Cullen, and as part of the Fourth Wall: A Season on Film + Architecture at the IFI (with Irish Architecture Foundation); Exchange Dublin and Filmbase as venues.
In this open-to-all workshop, participants are asked to make a short urban film based on the theme of the workshop Peripheries, in and about Dublin. Some of the Films were selected to be screened in the AHRA Peripheries conference in Belfast.
Dublin 2010

Izmir 2009
(Short Film Competition: Urban Living)
In collaboration with art advisor Tuna Yilmaz, and as part of Architecture Week (with Izmir Chamber of Architects).
In this open-to-all competition, participants were asked to make a short urban film based on the theme of the competition: Urban Living.
Istanbul 2008
In collaboration with art advisor Tuna Yilmaz, and as part of Design and Cinema Conference (with Istanbul Technical University).
In this open-to-all workshop, participants are asked to make a short film based on a concept or idea that they derive from Yimou Zhang’s Hero (2002).
